Range: Enhancing Relationship To The Process

Halliday & Matthiessen (1999: 170):
…where the relation is enhancing, the Range specifies some entity that delimits the scope of the Process; here, therefore, there is often an agnate form where the scope is construed as a circumstantial element. For example:

Process + Range
Process + circumstantial element
cross the street
climb the mountain
enter an agreement
cross over the street
climb up the the mountain
enter into an agreement
be a witness
become a prince
act as a witness
turn into a prince
